Acrobatics
Acrobatics or ‘Acro’ is a unique genre; it is a dynamic blend of acrobatics and dance, emphasising strength, flexibility, and artistic expression. It includes tumbling, balancing, and contortion movements, enhancing physical abilities and promoting creativity. Our classes foster teamwork, build confidence, and provide a fun challenge by merging dance and gymnastics into an exciting performance art.
Classes focus on building strength, flexibility, balance, limbering and tumbling. Classic dance elements are combined with physical conditioning drills to achieve this striking discipline.
Students begin learning foundational shapes and techniques; basic movements focused upon begin with forwards rolls and cartwheels. As foundational movements are achieved, students will continue to develop A great repetoire of skills in contortion and tumbling.
Ballet
Ballet is one of the most recognisable and popular dance disciplines. Dancers learn to exude poise and grace whilst performing with full control of their bodies.
From baby ballet, our students learn how to maintain good posture and poise, they begin to build on their basic motor skills and foundational ballet technique, developing strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.
Our advanced ballet dancers progress, to potentially, beginning pointe work. Years of building a great deal of strength, good alignment and technique, leads to pointe work when considered safe and appropriate for each individual.
Ballet is a foundation for all styles of dance, taking part in ballet can compliment training of other styles. We study the ISTD syllabus, giving the opportunity for our students from primary age to take exams.
Commercial
Commercial dance incorporates steps from hip hop, breakdance, street dance, popping and Jazz.
Commercial dance is a dynamic and versatile genre, often seen in music videos, live performances, and commercial productions, it focuses on entertainment and expression, appealing to a broad audience. This form of dance emphasises creativity, technical skill, and rhythmic precision, allowing dancers to showcase their individuality while also collaborating as part of a team. Rooted in pop culture, commercial dance continues to evolve, blending influences from fashion, music, and social trends, making it an exciting avenue for dancers seeking artistic fulfilment.
Contemporary
Contemporary uses techniques from jazz, ballet, lyrical and modern to create a distinctive genre.
This style concentrates on individual expressiveness of emotion, how to use breath control and different movements within the body to create a story. Contemporary tends to use a lot of the floor and covers a large amount of space allowing for fluid transitions to and from the floor; movements are fluid, continuous and flow seamlessly with little to no pause. Contemporary dance often incorporates improvisation and innovative choreography. This genre challenges traditional boundaries and encourages dancers to push beyond their limits, making it a versatile genre for both dancers and audiences alike. With its roots in the 20th century, contemporary dance continues to influence and reflect the complexities of modern life, making it an essential style for every dancer.
Heels
Heels dance is a dynamic and expressive dance style that combines the artistry of traditional dance with the confident allure of stiletto heels. It is characterised by sharp movements, fluid transitions, and a strong focus on body positivity and self-expression. Rooted in various genres, including jazz, commercial, and street dance, heels dance encourages dancers to embrace their femininity while mastering intricate footwork and posture. Classes typically cater to all levels, providing a supportive environment where participants can enhance their technique and performance skills. Whether a seasoned dancer or a complete beginner, heels dance offers an empowering experience that celebrates individuality and confidence.
Jazz Tech
Jazz dance combines classical ballet with modern styles, creating a captivating art form.
Known for its upbeat tempo and improvisation, jazz dance fosters creativity and individual expression. Dancers use sharp movements with fluid transitions and techniques like isolations, turns, and jumps. This dynamic style enhances physical fitness/stamina and builds confidence and artistry, appealing to both recreational and competitive dancers. Our classes focus on building strength, stamina, flexibility and clean lines and style, there is a great attention to detail given to kicks, leaps and turns, and transitions between movements, to create a desired uniformity.
Modern
Modern dance is an expressive art that started in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, moving away from strict ballet rules. It values creativity, individuality, and real emotions, allowing dancers to explore various movement styles. Modern dance often includes improvisation and incorporates foundational techniques whilst broadening performance skills.
We follow the ISTD Modern Theatre syllabus to ensure our students are able to follow a structured build up of techniques. We regularly have our students take graded ISTD exams to solidify their knowledge and skills and to perpetuate a sense of confidence and pride in all of our students.
Musical theatre dance expresses complex stories through movement, acting and singing. It develops characters and narrates emotions while showcasing dancers' skills in all aspects of performing arts. This art form captivates audiences with its blend of rhythm and storytelling, creating memorable experiences. At Ormskirk School of Dance, we celebrate the joy and creativity of musical theatre dance, nurturing talent and passion in every dancer, we love to see our dancers building confidence and self assurance through musical theatre.

Tap dance is a vibrant and energetic form of dance that combines rhythm, movement, and musicality. this captivating art form features dancers wearing specially designed shoes equipped with metal taps, which create distinct sounds as they strike the floor. Tap dance not only showcases intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms, but also offers a unique opportunity for creativity. tap dance is considered an impressive style and continues to enchant audiences and dancers alike, making it a dynamic and joyous addition to the world of dance.
We follow the ISTD Tap syllabus which bring high quality content to our classes and teaches our students the history of tap and different styles of tap.
